Report Cards: 1st Trimester

The end of the first trimester has come.  The girls had great report cards.  Ava had an interesting first trimester of 4th grade because her teacher had back surgery and they had 3 different subs over the 3 months.  Luckily the regular teacher, Mrs Brown, is back now and hopefully the 2nd trimester will be more of the normal schedule for the kids and they will have their grades back up and on the honor roll.  Leah is in the 2nd/3rd grade combo class and is rising to the occasion of being with older students.  Mrs Overmyer loves Leah a lot.  Both kids seem happy in school and are doing well.
Both of the girls were tested for GATE and they got achievement ribbons at the awards ceremony. Leah got the Respect award and a participation ribbon for the Reflections Art contest. Ava got Outstanding Citizenship. We are proud of all they are accomplishing and very happy for their successes.

Texas Thanksgiving

We headed off to Austin for Thanksgiving week!  Andrew loved seeing the airplanes and was a good little traveler.  Leah met a little girl at the airport from Ladera Ranch and they got to sit next door to each other on the plane.

The girls couldn't wait to get there and see all of their cousins.  We met up with the Sumans and Willards at Rudy's for a "Welcome to Texas" BBQ.

On Sunday we had a fun family day and then went to the Suman's house for dinner and celebrated Casey's birthday.

On Monday we went to Mighty Fine Burgers, a favorite of Bill's. On the way there we checked out the metal yard art at the store down the street.

Afterward, the ladies went to Magnolia Market in Waco.  It was cool to see the store and area Chip and Joanna created on Fixer Upper.

When we got back to the house the guys set up Dana's 40th surprise party!  Casey organized and ordered Chipotle and we had a dance party.

On Tuesday it was raining and a quiet day.  The moms went to the movies with the kids and saw The Trolls, which they all loved.  The guys stayed at the Sumans house.  Later that night the adults had a date night.  The kids stayed with babysitters and we went to Hopdoddy in Austin and walked around Congress Ave.

On Wednesday, we went into Austin to visit the Capital Building. The kids loved running on the grounds playing sardines and then had fun exploring in the building and learning a little Texas history.

After the Capital Building we went to Torchy's and then to Mt Bonnell, the highest point in Austin.

We came back and celebrated Sara's birthday.  We had cake and sang karaoke!

Thanksgiving Thursday was another great day!  We started out at the Cedar Park 5k race.  Some of the adults ran, including Eric and he came in first in our family group.  The kids ran the fun 1k run.  I was surprised by their competitiveness.  Owen came in first in our group of kids.  Proud of all of our participants!

Thanksgiving dinner was great.  Everyone pitched in.  Casey made a delicious turkey and we had all the fixings.  The kid table was fun and Grandpa drew a big turkey on the paper for the kids to color.  The girls and I put together some fun name tags and Eric debated the seating arrangement for the adults.

On Friday we said goodbye to Bill, Cindy and Meredith who got back on the road to California.   We all decided to take a little road trip of our own over to San Antonio to check out the River Walk and the Alamo.  On the way we stopped at Buc-ee's.  The largest gas station and store I've ever seen! In San Antonio, the River Walk area was actually closed due to a boat parade but the city square was having their tree lighting with a fun band and ginger bread cookie decorating.  The kids had a blast dancing in the streets.  On the way home we all met up at Rudy's for our last meal and said some more goodbyes.

The Sumans hosted a cousin sleepover.  They stayed up too late watching movies and were up early eating donuts.  The perfect sleepover!

And just like that the trip was over.  We took a few pictures and signed the Willard's guest book.  The flight home went pretty smoothly.  Poor Andrew some how cut his finger and had some bleeding on the plane.  Poor boy.  We came home to rain!

Thank you to the Willards and Sumans for hosting all of us and showing us a great time!  We had so much fun!  Until next time, Texas!
