1st Real Practice

Today was Ava's first real softball practice. I am going to try not to take pictures and videos of every single practice but I can't promise because it is so fun to see her learning a new sport and skills. I loved seeing them getting batting lessons. They first practiced on the hitting stick. Then, later they had the coach pitch to them.

Here is the video of Ava hitting the very first pitch. I am embarrassed to say that yes, that is me yelling to her to run. Man, I forgot that I was even taking a video when she hit it right away. Haha. I'm going to be one of those moms...a cheerleader mom.

She was happy with her good hit and then had to go out in the field. She spent the next 5 minutes playing in the dirt and later she told me it was because her coach said to not be scared of getting dirty. She was pouring sand on her pants. She takes things literally still I guess.

Saturday is Opening Day - they will receive their uniforms, take team pictures, have a parade of teams, and a fundraiser hit-a-ton. And we just got the game schedule and their 1st game is at 1:30 that afternoon. So, there might be some pictures from that day. :)

Volume 5

We received our two blog books, volumes 5.1 and 5.2 today. I love receiving the finished copies in the mail and knowing that I am starting fresh each year with my blog and have the past year documented. We are getting quite a nice collection.

We also just received our announcement book. This is about 400 pages and goes from 1999-2011. It includes all of the wedding announcement, baby announcements, Christmas cards, and even a few funeral programs that we have received over those years. It's broken into years and then put in alphabetically. I love being able to flip through and see gorgeous photos of old and new friends and also family. This was a big project that I'll be glad not to have to worry about again for another few years. I now just keep a file folder with the scanned cards as they come along.

Lady Pirates

Ava had her first softball practice yesterday. She wanted to wear her bright pink helmet the whole time. They were cute out there in the big field running the bases and learning the basics of the game.

They decided on a team name too, the Lady Pirates...the voting came down to Pirates or Unicorns, funny 5 year olds. Their team colors are black and red. They will be really cute out there but I can't wait for her to really learn the game and the all makes me a little nervous. We spent an hour yesterday practicing catching with her glove and today we got her a bat so hopefully this weekend we'll make it to the field to help her get a feel for hitting the ball with a real bat. Here are a couple video clips from practice of the girls running the bases and cheering.

Go Lady Pirates!

Rainy Days

We've had a couple of "cold" and rainy days. It reminds me of how glad I am to live where we do and I'm looking forward to the 80 degree days in the forecast! But, the rainy days did give me a good excuse to break out the rain boots which was kind of life changing since I didn't have cold, wet feet for once.

Eric harvested some broccoli from our winter garden this week. It is always fun when we pick something from the garden and it looks and tastes like it would from the market. Ava really enjoyed it. Maybe I should make some broccoli cheese soup this week. Here is the sample.

B'day Dinner at The Hat

Eric likes to have The Hat host his annual birthday dinner.

Eric usually finds the most foul thing on the the double chili cheeseburger.

Meredith came in a surprising close second this year with her pastrami burger but everyone has their share of foulness at this place.

Everyone seems to enjoy the food and the company (and all of the silly photo taking).

And in the end the table looks like this, yikes.

Always a good time at The Hat with the fam.
Happy Birthday, Eric!

Celebrating Eric

We celebrated Eric's birthday tonight at his parent's house. It was a garden theme and Camille was so nice to decorate the table for us since we don't get out of church until 4. It was cute how she used the different vegetables as decor. At dinner Rich initiated the I like you game and asked Eric for some words of wisdom. It was fun to hear so many wonderful things about Eric.

I made little plant cupcakes as the cake.

Here is the whole group. Carly was in town with her friend, Chase too.

After dessert he opened some gifts. The Eisenbises got Eric a mega pack of chapstick and the Blairs got him a book about toilets which includes some pretty funny stuff.

Happy Birthday, Eric!

Blog Booking

Now that we are back into our regular schedule, I have time to work on some projects. First up, blog books for 2011. I am previewing and doing final editing. I love when these are done!

Ava has enjoyed being back in dance class. She is taking a ballet and jazz combo class. It is really cute to watch her apply things that she has learned in gymnastics to dance and vice versa. When her gymnastics coach ask about different dance positions, Ava is the first to answer. I wish we could keep her in both but her dance class ends in just a couple of weeks.

Messiah In America

Last June while Eric was in Utah with OCMCO and EVMCO, they did a recording at Abravanel Hall of Messiah in America which is the oratorio that Brett Stewart (the choir director) wrote and conducted. The 2 disc album was release in January and it debuted at #1 Billboard's Traditional Classical Albums and on the Classical Albums list at number 7. It sounds amazing and Eric loves being apart of this choir organization.

This spring they are recording a Christmas album and I think even Ava gets to be involved with recording which will be pretty exciting.

On Saturday we went on one last day trip to the Balboa Pier. We let the kids play on the toys and find shells in the sand.

We rode the ferry across Newport harbor.

We also walked along the pier.

Afterward, we went to Al's and got pizza. Now, all of the visitors have gone back home and our normal schedule resumes tomorrow.
