Beautiful Savior

Ava and Eric performed in the OCMCO spring concert called Beautiful Savior. Ava was so adorable in her little outfit and Eric was handsome in his tux.

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is so beautiful. The concert hall that they perform in is big and grand. It is such a cool experience for them.

I splurged and got a ticket for a front row center seat. Literally front row center, it was perfect. Ava was standing really close to me during her two songs, Jesus Is My Shepherd and Popcorn Popping. She kept waving and smiling at me. Those little ones are the cutest! The Young Singers Chorus are 4 years old - 1st Grade.

I got busted for photography after my flash accidentally went off but not before I got a quick 7 second snippet of video...it's not the best and too short but at least Ava could see herself for a second.

No pictures of the rest of the choir but they did a really great job. The soloists were good, Brandon Stuart played an amazing Tchaikovsky piano concerto, the orchestra was spot on, and Brett Stuart's Oratorio was really interesting.

It was a crazy long day for everyone though. Ava and Eric had to be there at 11 am, I dropped off Leah with Cindy at 1pm, I picked Ava up at 8pm and Eric is still there until 9:30pm. They had two shows and a dinner break. Here they are heading back in after dinner. Ava barely talked to us on the break, she was so tired. She was such a good listener backstage and was able to be entertained while I watched the entire matinee showing...2 1/2 hours!

Ava was exhausted but happy that she did it. I think this exposure is really good for her and she is getting comfortable performing in front of a large audience. Pretty amazing. We were really proud of her!

Pool Day!

We went to the pool this morning since it is a beautifully hot and cloudless day. Although the kiddie pool was freezing, that didn't stop Ava. She was jumping in and practicing swimming. At first, Leah was just happy playing on the side with buckets and toys.

This video pretty much sums up Ava these days since in the first 5 seconds she tells me what to do and declares that she can do it by herself.

Leah was very surprised at how cold the water was once she got brave enough to go in.

Later on we went in the heated big pool and I was the human jungle gym for about an hour. Both girls jumped in over and over again. It was really fun to be out and in the sun and water. We're excited for more pool time at my parent's house next week!

Easter Sunday

Happy Easter!

This morning the girls were so excited to find their baskets. We hid them and they didn't even remember that it was Easter until we reminded them around 8am.

Every holiday is so magical with these two kids. They are so excited and animated about everything. Here is the video of them finding their baskets. It's long and kind of dark but they were pretty excited. Leah was cracking me up because once she saw the eggs had chocolate, it was over. She didn't care about anything else besides the candy.

After dinner at Gram's house we did a little egg hunt with Jill and Tyler.
They found all of the eggs and got to eat more candy. It's been a sugar overload today!

We had a really great day together!

Dying Eggs

We colored Easter eggs this evening. The girls loved seeing the eggs come out different colors. Ava wanted to put glitter on every egg and Leah wanted to draw on every egg with the wax crayon.

Afterward, Eric and the girls had an orange picnic. Our kind neighbors have been bringing us bags of oranges fresh off of their tree.

Bunny

Yesterday Eric had the day off so we went to visit the Easter Bunny. Of course, Ava is just at that perfect age for everything. She loves the Bunny.

Leah was excited before we got there. Then she saw the bunny and would not let go of me.

I finally pried her away from me but this was the best we could get. Poor sad Leah.

In Leah's defense, she did warm up to him as we were saying goodbye...she was more than happy to say goodbye.

Finding Eggs

We met up with friends today for an Easter egg hunt in the park. Ava was all about the numbers, making sure she got the appropriate amount. Leah was all about the candy. She found one egg, parked herself on the ground and ate the candy. She was happy and done.

It also was Luke's 5th birthday so Allyson brought cupcakes and treats for the kids.
What a fun park day! Thanks ladies.

Spring Swing

Spring is here! The weather has been beautiful. The girls have been playing outside a lot lately. Ava has learned some new tricks on the swing.

Pretty little faces in the sunshine.

Even Spike hangs out with us.

On Thursday, while Ava was in choir practice, Leah and I went exploring and found this fun little trail in University Hills. Little did we know, this is the very trail that Eric likes to jog in and picks an orange from the tree. Leah loved exploring and stopping to see all of the flowers.

Tyson, Amber and Eden were in town from Utah. We met up with them at Disneyland for a couple of hours. It was Spring Break crowded but Ava and Eden were like long lost friends and had so much fun together.

They stayed at our house for a night and the girls played so nice together. We love having friends in town! Unfortunately, I was sick and lost my voice so it was whisper whisper and sign language the whole time. Come back anytime, Henries! Hopefully I'll be able to talk and Eric won't be at work on Saturday next time. :) Ava took this picture of me. I was so sick but she said that she would pose me. She told me how to place my hand. What a silly little photographer.

April 15

We are typically celebrating two things today but since Tax Day is officially April 18th, thanks to Emancipation Day, we get to have three extra days of busy season. Hooray! No, not happy about that but the other reason that April 15th is fun is because it's Spike's birthday. Good old Spike is 8 years old. He is a really, really good cat who has been through 5 moves, a 3 month separation from us, an AIDS scare, being lost and found, 8 collars, 5 name tags, too many cat fights to count, an attempted hanging (for the record, he did it to himself in a tree), and piles and piles of fur (he has some skin issue where he pulls out fur). Spike is the kind of cat that will follow you anywhere so that must mean he is loyal. If you forget to feed him canned food for a couple of days, he kills his own mouse (or bird) and will leave it somewhere for your to pleasantly find which means he's resourceful and maybe vengeful. He has been a friend to all in whatever neighborhood we live in. Everybody knows Spike. Some people say that we don't blog enough about Spike. So here are some pictures to hold you until the next birthday. Thanks for being a good cat, Spike.

Strawberry Picking

Today Ava's preschool class took their field trip to Tanaka Farm to go strawberry picking. Ava was really excited because her favorite thing is strawberries and this was strawberry heaven. The other reason Ava was so excited was because Daddy got to come! Eric took a "breakfast break" and came to the farm to ride the wagon and pick strawberries with us. Leah went to play at Gram's house but Ava was missing her the whole time. I love that they are becoming good little buddies.

Here is a picture of some of the friends waiting to enter the farm.

Mom and dad!

The wagon ride was fun because we stopped probably five times and the guide told us facts about the farm and also let us sample some of the vegetables (carrots, broccoli, onions, snap peas, cilantro, etc). Ava tried everything and Eric loved it.

The final stop was at the rows and rows of perfectly delicious strawberries. They were so good. We searched for the best. Then picked and ate and picked and put them in our little box and then ate some more. Yum.

Ava found a huge triple strawberry but it was not quite ready for picking.

We splurged and got a giant chocolate covered strawberry. So good.

Too bad Ava still has a little allergy to strawberries. Her cheeks were bright red tonight and her bum hurt. At least it's not the same as when she was a baby, I think she is growing out of it. Luckily, the all-you-can-eat strawberry fest only happens once a year. :)
