Halloween Part 2 of 3

Last night we went to Eric's parent's ward Trunk or Treat. This time Ava knew exactly what to do and she was focused on getting the candy. She loves Halloween!

In this picture, I can bet that Ava is saying "Hey" about something.
Most of her sentences start out with "hey".

We invited the Lucas Family also and we had a lot of fun hanging out with them.
Of course, the kids looked so cute.

Chase wanted to bob for an apple.
He ended up just picking it up and putting it in his mouth.
Ava and Anna just wanted to play in the water.

This picture of Josh is totally funny.
I'm not sure who was more into the candy, the kids or Josh.

Kam is here visiting with her girls. Chloe is Super Martian Robot Girl from Yo Gabba Gabba! I can't believe Kam made this. Impressed. Trying to get pictures amongst all the distractions was very hard. Delilah is a mummy and Kam is Pippi Longstocking. Cute girls!

After we got our fill of candy we headed back to the house where Camille had some friends over for a little party and we had more treats and food. Yum. Thanks for a fun night!

Anna and Ava into a late night movie of...Baby Einstein.

Pumpkin Carving

On Sunday we went down to Eric's parents house for dinner with the Willards and Eisenbises. Before dinner everyone had fun hanging outside.

Ava and Cindy were having fun pushing their doll strollers in the back yard.

The boys played basketball.

Camille, Bill and I chatted.

Cute cousins.

After dinner we carved pumpkins and turnips.
If you're wondering why turnips, you can read last year's post here.

Lucy was totally into watching the carving. Her little pumpkin turned out so cute and she was so proud of it. Her favorite part was blowing out the candle while saying "happy birthday". Haha. Cute little Lucy.

Ava was definitely not into it. She just wanted to play.
Here is a picture of Eric trying to force her into helping with the pumpkin.

Eric's idea for our pumpkin did not turn out the way he wanted so he ended up just carving random things into it. Our turnips turned out pretty cute though. On the way out of the house Eric accidentally dropped mine and it broke. Oh well, better luck next year for the Suman's pumpkin carving.

Jeremy like the idea of it but didn't like touching the seeds and "guts".
He drew the face that he wanted and then Camille carved it out for him.

The finished products.

(Thanks to Dana for a lot of the pictures!)

Halloween Part 1 of 3

Tonight we had our ward's trunk or treat. Here are some before pictures of Butterfly Ava. She was so excited to have her costume on. She called herself a "butter" and then she would point to her antenna and say "bee". Kind of cute and maybe a little confusing for her.

After we got to the church her mood changed, she got really shy and an attitude. She lightened up though once she got a lollipop and by the end of the night she was loving the whole party. All the kids were so cute dressed up and playing games (Ava won a goldfish!).

Here are a few pictures of Ava and some of her little friends. These pictures were the best I could get. If one of the two was looking the other wasn't. What's up with 2 year olds?

Ava and Ike
Lollipop Buddies

Ava and Meredith
Loving the Goldfish

Ava and Reagan
At least they weren't attacking each other.

Ava and Anna
Kind of a psychedelic second picture.

Ava LOVED trick-or-treating! She understood to go to the adult to get the candy and say Trick-or-Treat in her own alien way. She tried to get multiples at every stop and liked putting the candy in her pumpkin.

Once we were in the car and at home her favorite thing was taking all of the candy out of the pumpkin and then putting it back in and so on. She actually only ate a little bit of candy. She had more fun playing with it which is fine by us.

Fun night with the HB 7thers.

Another Pumpkin Patch

Tonight we took Ava to another Pumpkin Patch. This is the third one this year but she seems to really like pumpkins so it's cheap entertainment!

She loved looking at the farm animals with Eric.

I like that Ava is genuinely happy in this picture and the colors made for a great little Halloween picture.

Of course we had to get another drum picture. I looked at the picture from last year's visit and I could have cried. I sometimes miss that little crawling Ava. She seemed so sweet and innocent.

Vote Yes on Prop 8 in California

I will vote Yes on Prop 8 on November 4th.

The Issue
California voters passed Proposition 22 in 2000 by more than 61%, saying that a marriage in California is between a man and a woman. Earlier this year, four activist judges based in San Francisco wrongly overturned the people's vote, legalizing same-sex marriage. Prop 8 is just 14 words: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

The Consequences
The Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage did not just overturn the will of California voters; it also redefined marriage for the rest of society, without ever asking the people themselves to accept this decision. This decision has far-reaching consequences. For example, because public schools are already required to teach the role of marriage in society as part of the curriculum, schools will now be required to teach students that gay marriage is the same as traditional marriage, starting with kindergarteners. By saying that a marriage is between “any two persons” rather than between a man and a woman, the Court decision has opened the door to any kind of “marriage.” This undermines the value of marriage altogether at a time when we should be restoring marriage, not undermining it. This has already begun in the state of Massachusetts.

The Solution:
Vote YES on Proposition 8 to overturn the Supreme Court decision and restore the definition of marriage that was approved by over 61% of voters. Proposition 8 is NOT an attack on gay couples and does not take away the rights that same-sex couples already have under California’s domestic partner law. California law already grants domestic partners all the rights that a state can grant to a married couple (California Family Code section 297.5). Gays have a right to their private lives, but not to change the definition of marriage for everyone else.

I hope everyone votes on November 4th.

Arizona visit with the Bates

We went to Arizona this past weekend to visit with family for Colin's mission homecoming. Ava was so great in the car both ways and we had a lot of fun staying with the Bates. On Saturday we headed over to Granner's house to help finish cleaning out everything. There was a big moving truck there to be loaded to come back to California. Everyone enjoying finding treasures and reliving some memories and helped out. Here is Eric and Marty. We tried to keep the kids together to watch a movie but they were too excited to run around the empty house.

Back at the Bates' house, Carter, Ava and Savanna had so much fun playing together.
Savanna found a bowl for a hat so of course Ava had to copy.

On Sunday we drove up to Cottonwood for Colin and his friend, Joe's, homecoming talks. Carter and Ava watched Toy Story on the drive. Ava has never seen it and she was so into it. Her face always had a concerned look on it. Kind of funny.

Both Colin and Joe did a great job on their talks and it was great to hear more about their experiences. Terry and fam hosted a great luncheon afterward. Here we are with the man of the day. And, I got my hair done! It feels great to have a little different look since it has been so long. Thanks Rachael.

There was a duck pond behind the facility and there were these huge ducks/geese. They were honking so loud at the kids. Finally, Ava got a little brave enough to get close.

After dinner and driving back to Gilbert we went to the Smith's new home to visit. They have such a pretty house with lots of great space for the kids. The kids constantly were playing Star Wars with light sabers all weekend long. I don't think I saw Jeremy and Braedon without one the whole time no matter where we were. I like how Ava just kept pushing the stroller through the whole performance.

On Monday we took the kids to the park where the kids had the most fun playing in the sprinklers, sand, and on these utility boxes.

We also went to Cafe Rio (twice over the weekend) and went back to Granner's house on our way out of town. It was so weird to see the house completely empty. We had to take a last picture in front before it gets rented out.
