Gordon B. Hinckley

President Gordon B. Hinckley passed away last night, January 27th 2008, at 7pm MST. So much could be said about this great man who led our church for the past 13 years. He has served so tirelessly and faithfully. I love that despite his old age he traveled the world visiting more than 60 countries. He moved the church forward with the building of many temples (more than doubling the number when he first was called), announcing the building of the Conference Center, the initiation of the Perpetual Education Fund, and creating a positive media buzz about the church by being interviewed for magazines, newspapers and appearing on 60 Minutes and Larry King Live.

I feel so blessed that I was able to hear and see him speak at so many occasions like at General Conference in Salt Lake City, on BYU campus, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, First Presidency Christmas Devotionals, and just two weeks ago at our Stake Conference live broadcast. He will always be the president that I consider "my Prophet", meaning the president of the church that I remember most from my spiritually growing up stage of life. I love his humor and how "with it" he was despite being 97 years old. He was a great example of service and love, not only to members of the church but to everyone in the world's community. I am grateful for his service and testimony.

Happy Birthday Eric!

Thursday was Eric's 28th birthday. We celebrated that night by going to a hamburger place in Lake Forest, The Hat. We met the Eisenbises, Meredith and Bill there for dinner. Eric got a double chili cheeseburger. It was everywhere. A few minutes after being there a guy and some kids from Meredith's school came in with posters asking her to go to the Winter Formal dance with him. She seemed genuinely surprised. After The Hat we went to Barry's Frozen Custard for some yogurt. Yum!

On Saturday Eric's parents, the Eisenbises and Willards came down to Huntington Beach. We went to the park and then to Don Jose's for dinner. It was fun to have them down here hanging out at our apartment since it has been a while. The kids were all so good. They played well together and at dinner they entertained themselves while we all talked. It was a great night out.

Then, last night we went up to Rancho for Eric's birthday dinner. We played Pictionary and had a little party with gifts and cake. Meredith received some good news too...she was accepted to BYU Idaho for the fall. Woohoo! So exciting. Congrats to Mer!

Happy Birthday, Eric. Thanks for being a wonderful husband and dad to Ava. We love you.

Ava Pictures

While we were in Florida over Christmas, Ava learned how to make a funny face.

Ava also started a class, Beam-n-Baby.
It's a tumbling class for babies 10-18 months old. It was cute to see her try so many new things.

We had such great weather last week that we went to many parks.

We visited Eric's new office. It fun to know that Ava will grow up visiting Eric here.

Ava has really loves her little baby dolls.
She always wants us to feed them, put a blanket on them, and hug them. Here she is just watching one of her shows with them. She'll be a great little mommy one day.

I'm going to Disneyland!

The new year brought about a huge change with Eric's career. Now that it's done I can make the official announcement. He has quit PwC and officially started working for his Uncle Rich today who has his own private tax practice. PwC was a good experience for Eric but working with Rich is a big opportunity and a great blessing. We are both so excited for this change and all of the possibilities!

Eric had his last day with PwC on Friday so we celebrated by going to Disneyland. We got there late in the evening so we only went on two rides (Pirates of the Caribbean and It's a Small World) and watched the fireworks. Ava loved all of the lights which made pictures hard. We are excited to go often this year. It was good to remember how much fun it is there.

Ringing In 2008

Happy New Year! It's hard to believe that another year has gone by. Time seems to be going quicker the older we get. We were back in California to ring in the new year with the Sumans and Gerdts. We spent the night Sunday and Monday. We played games, went to see Kite Runner, went to the park, played baseball, and mostly just hung out.

Then today Ava and I went up to Los Angeles to visit the Getty Museum with Cindy, Meredith, Dana, Camille, Lucy and Jeremy. They had a great little children's room and the gardens were beautiful. I loved how you could see downtown LA, the mountains, and the ocean from the hilltop views.
